The 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup officially kicked off this month as 12 countries compete to win the continental cup. Japan are the defending champions of 2018 and several teams will compete for the title and five qualification places for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The tournament is hosted in India with matches played in three stadiums across the country. Fans can watch the entire 2022 AFC Women’s Cup on Paramount+.

The quarter-finals confirmed four of the five available World Cup spots, with China, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines earning their places with quarter-final victories. Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Vietnam have a chance to qualify for the last place, two of them will qualify for an interconfederation play-off.

The Philippines will make their World Cup debut in 2023, having advanced on penalties against Chinese Taipei. A historic feat after the country narrowly missed out on the 2019 World Cup. Australia are knocked out of the Asian Cup but have an automatic World Cup birth as hosts of the event in 2023. Tournament host India pulled out of the competition due to a spate of positive COVID-19 cases.
