Craig Revel Horwood can freeze a room with his acerbic tongue once he embarks on the BBC’s hit show Strictly Come Dancing.

The former professional dancer is known for his fiery and hard-hitting teardowns, but everyone knows that behind all the bubbly is a charming and sweet teddy bear.

The 56-year-old has been with Strictly since its inception and has remained loyal to the show’s British brand, which is now in its 19th year.

And the Australian-British ballroom dancer had a lifetime, even before becoming a judge on the show, from singing as a drag queen to marrying a woman before realizing he was gay.

One thing is for sure, when it comes to Saturday night entertainment, Craig always shows up and it would be hard to imagine Strictly if he decided to stop him.

Two-year marriage to a woman

Before Craig declared himself gay, he married a woman from Caerphilly, Wales called Jane, whom he met in London.

The couple grew closer after moving into a flat share in London together while Craig performed in West End Musical Miss Saigon.

And in 1990, Craig, at the age of 25, and Jane, who was five years older than the professional dancer, got married.

In his autobiography, All Balls and Glitter: My Life, Craig wrote: “Jane actually thought I was gay when we first met. In the early 1990s, Jane and I became an object.

“We were staying in a one-bedroom apartment in Crouch End, which was very romantic – a bit like Robert Redford and Jane Fonda in Barefoot in the Park.

“I loved his wacky qualities, his appreciation of the arts, his outgoing nature, his ability to converse with anyone, his strength, his passion – even his Welsh accent.”

Craig finally asked his Welsh partner if she would marry him in a moment he now calls “reckless”.

At the time, he was also revealed to be bisexual, which he said was never a problem, but after two years together the couple started to separate.

Just before their two-year anniversary, Judge Strictly also discovered that Jane had slept with a mutual friend, nicknamed Lightning.

Despite the slight acrimonious end to their relationship, the couple are still good friends today.

Great Britain has talent Ex

After a five-year relationship with a Harley Street pharmacist called Grant MacPherson, Craig found himself single, but it didn’t take long for him to find love again in the strangest places.

In 2013, Craig and Britain’s Got Talent nominee Damon Scott first announced they were an item.

Puppeteer Damon became a sensation in 2007 after performing his “Monkey Man” routine on Britain’s Got Talent.

Damon reached the talent show final but ultimately lost to opera singer Paul Potts.

The couple had been together for three years, but sadly broke up in 2016.
