HCMC pays over VND 47 billion to over 31,500 self-employed workers | Ho Chi Minh City

The director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of HCMC, Le Minh Tan, held an online meeting on the afternoon of July 9 with his sub-divisions in 21 districts and the city of Thu Duc on the progress of the disbursement of HCMC’s second social security package to support people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The HCMC support program has a scale of 886 billion VND for six groups of subjects, including the self-employed.

As for the progress in supporting the self-employed, so far the city has helped more than 31,500 people, representing 14% of the total number of self-employed, with an amount of almost VND 47.3 billion. Meanwhile, District 8 and Go Vap District have yet to help 26,500 self-employed workers in those two districts.

The locality that disburses the support program the earliest is District 5. So far, this district has supported nearly 6,000 people out of a total of 6,300 local self-employed workers, or 95%, for an amount of approximately 9 billion VND.

Mr. Le Minh Tan congratulated District 5 for the active implementation of the support program. The disbursement of the support package even took place until 10 p.m. on July 8. Besides the financial support of 1.5 million VND per person, District 5 also gave each person 5 kilograms of rice.

District 12 is the locality with a 105 percent alimony settlement rate. According to initial statistics, the district has nearly 4,500 self-employed workers. In fact, the district has continuously updated the list of self-employed in difficult circumstances and has so far supported over 4,700 people amounting to over VND 7 billion.

Among the five districts of HCMC, the district of Can Gio recorded the highest progress in the implementation of the support program with 73 percent. The district supported 4,160 people out of a total of more than 5,700 self-employed workers.

Of the more than 31,500 self-employed workers who have received financial support, there are nearly 1,500 lottery ticket sellers.

Mr. Le Minh Tan ordered the sub-divisions of labor, invalids and social affairs of the city of Thu Duc and 21 districts to speed up the disbursement of the support plan, which is to be carried out throughout the week. . It demands that before July 15, HCMC complete financial assistance for 230,000 self-employed workers.

Regarding motorcycle taxi drivers, according to statistics, HCMC has 34,000 traditional motorcycle taxi and pedicab drivers, except application-based motorcycle taxi drivers. Mr. Tan admitted that during the period of social distancing, motorcycle taxi drivers lost their jobs. Their income is below the essential minimum standard of living and they face several difficulties in life.

Mr. Le Minh Tan led the sub-divisions in the districts, Thu Duc city, wards, townships and cities to compile comprehensive statistics and provide timely support to these people.
