Local Covid tally in Vietnam exceeds 29,000

Vietnam confirmed 465 new community transmissions on Tuesday morning, sending the current wave’s case count to 29,103 and the HCMV tally to over 15,000.

Among the new cases, Ho Chi Minh City had 365, including 336 cases in containment and quarantine zones. Another 29 cases have unclear sources of transmission.

The other cases were detected in six other localities.

Long An province, which borders HCMV, has recorded 52 cases, 22 of which have been in contact with Covid-19 patients, 13 returning from HCMV and 17 have been traced.

Vinh Long Province in the Mekong Delta has recorded 23 cases, including 11 associated with existing cases and 12 linked to a cluster at a company in Long Ho District.

Dong Nai, which is also a neighbor of HCMC, has reported 12 cases, and nine of them are linked to a cluster in Long Tan Township, Nhon Trach District, while three are in contact tracing. .

Central Phu Yen Province has reported seven cases and all of them were isolated before their test results positive.

The province of Tay Ninh, another neighbor of HCMC, has recorded five cases, four of which are linked to confirmed patients and one who visited HCMC.

The Hanoi case is linked to a confirmed patient.

Since the new wave began to hit Vietnam in late April, community infections have been recorded in 58 of Vietnam’s 63 cities and provinces.

The country’s largest city, HCMC, leads the number of cases and authorities have warned of a higher tally for the city in the coming days, as they have maintained daily infections detected with sources of transmission unknown in the community.

Vietnam has vaccinated more than four million of its 96 million people against Covid-19 and 280,367 have received two doses.
