After a long break, the VCS returns with the Winter Split 2021

The Vietnamese Championship Series (VCS) is finally returning after an extended exit from the professional scene due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To the delight of fans, they can expect their favorite Vietnamese franchises to go head to head in what’s called the VCS Winter Split.

The Winter Split competition is an additional division of the competition which will take place after the end of the World Championships. The “split” will be structured as a double round robin tournament with eight participating franchises. We’ll see GAM Esports, CERBERUS Esports, Saigon Buffalo, Team Secret, SBTC Esports, Burst The Sky Esports, Team Flash, and Luxury Esports go head-to-head until there’s a team left.

The action is scheduled to start on November 16th, they will play 6 days a week (Tuesday-Sunday) until we have a winner on December 31st. We will end the year by crowning the best Vietnamese team in the region. However, it is regrettable that they cannot take part in the action of the World.

The COVID-19 pandemic has really shaken the VCS for 2021. Since April, there has been no action outside the Vietnamese region due to the COVID restriction. It all started with the inability for their teams to attend the 2020 Worlds and since then it has only gotten worse.

They were forced to cancel their Summer Split due to delays in obtaining an event permit. Then, due to problems obtaining visas for their representatives, they were unable to send their top talent to the 2021 Worlds. The last time we saw a VCS team in an international competition, it was the Mid- Season Invitational 2020, this extra division is well deserved.

It is finally time for the VCS to come back in force. It will be a pleasure to see the best of this region get down to it. But we can’t help but wonder what some of their best talents could have done on the Worlds stage.
