Vietnam opens as Asean reported more than 31,000 Covid-19 cases on Saturday, October 24

BANGKOK, October 24 (The Nation Thailand / ANN): Southeast Asia saw a decrease in new Covid-19 cases and associated deaths on Saturday October 23, according to data gathered.

ASEAN countries reported 31,057 infections and 355 deaths on Saturday compared to 32,368 and 585 respectively on Friday.

Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has revealed that Langkawi Island in Kedah state will be reopened to fully vaccinated foreign tourists without a mandatory quarantine as part of the travel bubble pilot project.

Foreign tourists must stay in Langkawi for at least three days and purchase insurance of at least US $ 80,000.

Vietnam’s Ministries of Tourism and Health have announced that fully vaccinated foreign tourists who have vaccination certificates and proof of a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR test within 72 hours can enter Phú Quốc, the largest resort island of the country.

However, ministries have yet to reveal a list of countries allowed to enter the island.

The Vietnamese government has set itself the goal of welcoming 3,000 to 5,000 visitors between December and March.

Vietnam reported 3,373 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, including 3,361 transmitted locally and 12 imported, according to the country’s health ministry.

Most community cases have been detected in southern localities, including 749 in Ho Chi Minh City, 605 in Dong Nai province and 517 in Binh Duong province.

The new infections brought the country’s total to 884,895, with 21,620 deaths, the ministry said.

Nationwide, 804,664 Covid-19 patients have so far recovered, up 1,338 from Friday, while nearly 72 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered, according to the ministry.

Vietnam has registered 880,149 locally transmitted Covid-19 cases since the start of the current wave at the end of April on Saturday, the ministry said.
