Hanoi (VNA) – The Foreign Ministry held a ceremony in Hanoi on October 4 to symbolically receive 1.5 million doses of Pfizer / BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine of COVAX installation with the help of the US government.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang thanked the COVAX facility, the US government and the people for their timely support as Vietnam ramps up its COVID-vaccine inoculation campaign. 19.

He also highly appreciated the effective support of United Nations agencies, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United States for medical supplies. and capacity building of Vietnamese health workers, affirming that Vietnam wishes to continue to receive assistance as well as advice for its post-pandemic recovery and socio-economic development in the times to come.

On behalf of United Nations agencies, WHO Representative in Vietnam, Dr Kidong Park, expressed gratitude to COVAX donors and highly appreciated Vietnam’s efforts to speed up COVID-19 vaccinations, by especially for priority groups and in the most affected cities and provinces.

Park stressed the need for Vietnam to further promote the principle of “5K + vaccine” when the country resumes its economic activities.

UNICEF Vietnam Representative Rana Flowers pledged to continue providing support in Vietnam, including getting students back to school and tackling social issues.
