Vietnam reports 11,521 new cases of Covid-19, 667,650 in total – Ho Chi Minh City remains highest with 5,972 infections

HANOI, Sept. 17 (Xinhua): Vietnam reported 11,521 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, including 11,506 transmitted locally and 15 imported, according to the country’s health ministry.

The new infections brought the country’s total to 667,650, with 16,637 deaths, the ministry said.

Most of the community cases have been detected in localities in the south, including 5,972 in the epicenter of Ho Chi Minh City, 4,013 in neighboring Binh Duong province and 345 in Dong Nai province.

Hanoi recorded 12 new cases on Friday, all in quarantine or containment areas.

The capital has not detected any community cases in the past two days. Friday was also the day Hanoi recorded the lowest number of cases in the past two months.

More than 33 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to date.

Fourteen of the 63 provinces and cities have seen no new cases in the past 14 days.

So far, up to 433,465 Covid-19 patients have recovered, up 9,914 from Thursday, while more than 33 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the Ministry.

Vietnam has recorded a total of 663,232 locally transmitted Covid-19 cases on Friday since the current wave began in late April, the ministry said.
