Local Covid cases in Vietnam increase by 659

The health ministry confirmed 659 new community transmissions in nine localities as of Monday morning, bringing the number of infections during the current wave to 26,930.

Among the new cases, 544 were recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, including 369 in quarantine zones and areas under containment. 175 others have unknown sources of transmission.

Tien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta has recorded 43 cases all of which are associated with a previously confirmed patient.

Khanh Hoa central province reported 27 cases linked to an existing case.

Vinh Long Province in the Delta has recorded 26 cases, including 24 linked to a cluster at a company in Long Ho District and two with unidentified sources of infection.

An Giang province in the delta has recorded eight cases, six of which have been in direct contact with Covid-19 cases and the other two have been traced.

The southern province of Binh Phuoc has recorded five cases, four of which were associated with previously confirmed patients, one linked to the Thu Duc wholesale market in HCMC, and two subject to contact tracing.

The four cases in central Phu Yen province are all recorded in isolated areas.

The two cases in the central provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Nghe An had contacted Covid-19 patients before their positive test results.

Since April 27, when the new wave started in Vietnam, local infections have been recorded in 58 of the 63 cities and provinces of the country.

More than 4 million of the country’s 96 million people have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus and 277,447 have received two doses.
