The Ministry of Health announces that there is no shortage of ventilators; therefore, people should not buy

In addition, the massive purchase of such medical equipment will lead to a shortage of supplies, preventing medical institutions and hospitals from purchasing machines for patients in need when the epidemic grows unpredictably.

As the Southeast Asian country faces the fourth wave of the coronavirus epidemic from April 27 to today, more than 50,000 Covid-19 infections have been reported in cities and provinces of country; worse, Ho Chi Minh City has the highest number of cases of infection with nearly 33,000 cases of infection.

The fast-spreading Delta variant as well as the steadily increasing number of cases have placed great pressure on the health sector and infirmaries. This worried people a lot. Therefore, many people have sought to purchase ventilators, oxygen concentrators, and store oxygen cylinders for backup despite warnings from medical experts.

According to Dr Nguyen Trong Khoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examinations and Treatment Administration at the Ministry of Health, Covid-19 patients with respiratory failure or difficulty breathing need respiratory assistance ; however, not all cases of Covid-19 patients require ventilation.

According to the data recorded in this epidemic, around 80% of Covid-19 patients this time who are asymptomatic or have mild clinical symptoms while only around 5% of cases need oxygen concentrators, 0.17% of cases under invasive mechanical ventilation and 1.3%. cases requiring invasive mechanical ventilation.

Only trained healthcare workers can use oxygen concentrators and other medical equipment, including blood pressure monitors and thermometers. Therefore, people cannot use the above mentioned medical equipment at home.

Speaking about the oxygen supply, Dr Nguyen Trong Khoa said that the Ministry of Health has ensured that the oxygen supply is 30 times higher than the current demand in hospitals; therefore, people are not worried that the oxygen supply is insufficient in the country in general or in Ho Chi Minh City in particular.

This morning, the country reported 2,015 additional cases of Covid-19 including 136 critically ill patients.
